FREE INITIAL CONSULTATION: TERMS AND CONDITIONS

As part of Bartlett Law’s commitment to access to justice, we are offering new clients and former clients we haven’t heard from for some years, a free consultation with one of our lawyers, for up to one hour.

The terms and conditions of our Access to Justice scheme are:

  1. It is open to new clients and former clients for new matters.
  2. It is for legal advice about a specific employment and/or privacy issue currently affecting the client.
  3. Bartlett Law must make a conflict check prior to confirming an initial consultation appointment; and may require information from the potential client for the purposes of the conflict check.
  4. Under the scheme, the client will incur no cost for the initial consultation meeting of up to one hour with one of the Bartlett Law lawyers, but in all other respects will have the rights and obligations of a client.

If the lawyer reads or considers documents or information prior to or during the initial consultation meeting, the time spent by the Bartlett Law lawyer considering these documents or this information may form part of the one hour fee free period.

  1. Prior to the initial consultation meeting the client must have accepted Bartlett Law’s formal terms of engagement, which will be sent to the client prior to the initial consultation meeting.
  2. The date and time for the initial consultation meeting are subject to the availability of a Bartlett Law lawyer.  In any month, there is a limited number of available appointments and Bartlett Law may not be able to meet every request under the scheme.
  3. Initial consultation meetings will be by phone, electronic meeting such as Zoom or Teams, or in person.
  4. Bartlett Law will not be obliged to provide any advice or assistance or legal services after or beyond or as follow-up to the initial consultation meeting.  Likewise, the client will not be obliged to continue to seek legal services from Bartlett Law.
  5. If the client’s matter requires further legal advice or services and the client wishes Bartlett Law to provide these services, but Bartlett Law does not accept that engagement, we will provide suggestions or introductions for suitable alternative provider/s.
  6. In the first consultation, the details of the client’s issue will be defined, and discussed, and advice given as to the legal position and options for how to resolve it. On some occasions this may all that is required.  A summary of the first consultation will be provided after it has taken place.
  7. Bartlett Law reserves the right to decline any application for a free initial consultation meeting without explanation.
  8. Please refer to our Standard Terms and Conditions on our website in the Terms tab for information about confidentiality and privacy.  All our Standard Terms and Conditions apply, subject only to any modification by these special terms.
  9. Our scheme is open now.  It will be reviewed on or after 30 August 2024, at which time it may be renewed on revised terms for requests for assistance first made after that date.

Please email us at lawyer@btlaw.co.nz or phone us on Wellington 472 5579 if you would like to apply for one of our free initial consultations.  We will need your full name, your contact details and, if the matter you are seeking advice about concerns another party or parties, the name/s of those people, businesses or organisations (for our conflict-of-interest check).
